CA Clinics Veterans Program
How does the DVA program work?
Veterans can apply for the program through a $25 screening consult with CA Clinics. Our team will explain the requirements for the program and assess your case to see if you may be a suitable candidate, before you see one of our doctors. Screening appointments take less than 15 minutes and can be completed via video (telehealth) from the comfort of your own home. For eligible patients prescribed medicinal cannabis by our doctors, CA Clinics will seek approval to use medicinal cannabis as well as funding to cover product costs. We are currently working on expanding the program to cover doctors consultation costs as well, which are currently paid out of pocket by the patient.
What is PTSD?
Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a treatable anxiety disorder affecting around one million Australians each year, including many veterans of our armed forces. It happens when fear, anxiety and memories of a traumatic events don't go away. The feelings last for a long time and interfere with how people cope with everyday life.
Symptoms of PTSD can vary greatly, from subtle changes in day-to-day life, withdrawal and numbness, to distressing flashbacks or physical anxiety. The main symptoms of PTSD are:
- Re-experiencing the trauma through memories, nightmares or flashbacks
- Deliberately avoiding reminders of the trauma
- Negative thoughts and mood
- Being very alert and having a physical response to sudden changes that could be a sign of danger
PTSD can be a chronic, disabling condition. It can have a severe impact on individuals and their families. It can also lead to other conditions such as depression or substance abuse. However, with the right support and treatment, recovery is possible.
Veterans treated with medicinal cannabis at CA Clinics can have their treatment data analyzed as part of the Applied Cannabis Research / PTSD Study.
